I have been neglecting my blog so bad lately. Not just this one but my family blog too. I have a a long list of things to do and keeping up with the blog is somewhere on there. I do have some pictures to share though. I recently had the opportunity to create a custom scrapbook for a graduate. His mom contacted me and asked if I would make a book using pictures from his high school years. I gladly accepted the challenge because I love to scrapbook and love to do things for others. I truely enjoyed making this book and even more seeing the expression on the clients face once she saw it. It's really something her son will cherish forever. That led me to think, I could really do this and get paid. So without further ado I present

More embroidery stuff

My mom has a booth at a craft sale in April and wanted me to make a few things for her to see if they will sell. Since the only thing I have going on is moving from Canada back to Texas April 1st. In my spare time I decided to make a few baby out fits, dish gloves and blankets.

The gloves are mine that I did for practice. On the next few pairs I will use a color that pops and make the font bigger. I can't wait to slip those babies on and scrub away!

Hair Clippies

I bought a pack of hair clips about a year ago with the intention of making something (didn't know what since I can't tie a bow) I saw some hair clippies at our local baby boutique and of course had to buy them even though they were $8 for 2 little clippies. I think that's what inspired me to make these.

The brown polka dot ribbon is satin and very hard to work with. It looks a little bumpy.

Yee Haw it's rodeo time!

I did this layout a few months ago but decided to save it until rodeo time in Houston. I so wish I could be down there to partake in all the rodeo festivities. This is the first time I have inked on chip board, it was so fun. These chip board letters are actually colored on the other side but a pastel and that didn't go with my layout. I wrapped the twine around each letter to give a rope sort of feel. Thanks for looking.

BBTB2 Spring Contest

I love this collection, Chloe's Closet. Even though it's a year old, it gets me in the mood for Spring.

With these pictures I tried a new technique seen at my local scrap store. All over their walls they have layouts with the pictures being printed on white card stock. To be honest when I first printed these out I thought they looked kind of crappy. Once they are on the layout they look awesome, almost antique. I got all the white textured card stock they had and experimented a little. A little advice if you are planning to do this is don't use the orange peel texture, it sucks up way too much of the ink. Stick to white we tried ivory and it didn't look good either. The texture I will stick with is 'linen'.

Here is a layout I did for a challenge at the 10th Annual Paperie scrapbook retreat this past weekend. it was my first retreat but I can't wait to go to another one. I got 16 layouts done while I was there. It's nice to scrap and only stop to eat.

I have said it before and will say it again, I love challenges, they really get me motivated. On this card I changed the bow up a bit. For some reason a bow is so girly to me so I cut one side and angled the end.

What do you do with all those scraps? I make cards when I make layouts. I find it so easy since you already have the paper out. If I try to organize scraps I will never use them again. Thursday Challenge

For today's challenge, we have the wonderful and ever useful....acrylic. If you are not sure what that is, it is a clear piece of paper that is quite substantial. It is very hard to pick it up on camera, so I each time I took a picture with the acrylic moved, so you could see.

On the first two cards, the butterfly is on top of the acrylic, while everything else is below on the cardstock. By placing the butterfly on top, it created amazing dimension. I attached my acrylic with a purple flower brad (which also dotted the i):

For this fun little card, I used the acrylic to separate my flowers.
Everything is under the acryllic except the yellow flower and its brad. Also the metal swirly holder is on top.

Acrylic creates a wonderful dimension and creates a wonderful clean look. I can't wait to see how you use acrylic.

Tuesday Technique...RIBBON

I love ribbon! It is so versatile. It can add a great deal to a layout or just be a subtle touch. Here I built my whole layout around some adorable spring ribbon I found:

For our fifth anniversary, my husband and I went to Ft. Lauderdale. We took some outstanding sunrise pictures. I really wanted to capture the simple beauty of something we see every day...the sun! I used all the ribbon that matched the paper I had:

Sometimes, ribbon makes the best borders, especially when its themed. I made this page at my moms house last year when I was very limited on scrapbooking supplies. I think the ribbon added a lot:

By now, you have settled into summer. Ahhh, nothing like the lazy days of summer! No winter coats to wrestle in the morning, no chasing the school bus as it passes your house, no checking to make sure your child actually did his/her homework. Watermelon, ice cream, and cool drinks are plentiful. And, if you are anything like Staci and me, then you have a TON of Summer pictures. How about trying something different this year with your pictures?

When I am the need for a quick fix of relaxation via creativity...I will make cards.

I needed some birthday cards anyway, so it was time.
I would like to share my creations with you.
I think I had a extreme liking for green and pink today!

More than anything I enjoy making Just Because cards. I had my eye on this little bird while visiting Staci in Canada. I saw it on some cards at her local scrapbook store. She is just adorable with her little bow! But, they didn't have any in stock. Just a few days after returning home, the stamp came in my mailbox. Of course, Staci located it online and shipped it to me. She is such a doll!

Scrappin' with a purpose

Now, don't get me wrong...
I love to fill album after album of my personal creations. But, sometimes I use my creativity for something useful in a different way...
Back some time ago, Staci and I were talking about making each other a recipe scrapbook. After a couple hours of talking and planning (as we girls love to do) we decided to do a recipe swap.

Here's how it works:
Each person gathers 5 recipes form their own collection and makes a 8x10 cardstock page for each person in the swap. We have since all gone to colored copies of our amazing creations to save time and money. But, believe it or not, the colored copies come out beautifully. Of course, we keep our originals.

This past swap was party food. I perused my recipe book and picked out my faves:

so I decided to put them on one page:

Sometimes simple is best!

We only do the swap three times a year, but each time, I look forward to making my recipes and getting others in the mail. And heck, you can't beat scrapbooking with a purpose!

Technique Tuesday

It's the beginning of the month and that means a new technique. We decided on flowers for this month's theme. Staci and I both love flowers and using them on our pages. It also helps that between us we have 3 girls, so flowers are a must. Here are a few layouts with loads of flowers. If you wish to show off your layouts using this week's technique add your layout to your blog or message board, then add to Mr. Linky below.

We can't wait to see your amazing work!

Flowers can be used anywhere, but are a must for almost any card. Although you can't tell, the brown flower is behind the acrylic and the yellow flower is in the front. It creates a neat dimension effect. It is simply held together by a brad.

Here is an idea from Creating Keepsakes Magazine that I adapted:

Instead of snowflakes, I used cascading flowers to accent my bluebonnet theme:

I bought these particular flowers at Hobby Lobby in the floral section for half off. I put a rhinestone in the center. I love the rounded corners on layouts when using a lot of flowers. This is one of my most favorite layouts.

This layout is very special to me. I have been wanting to do a layout based on grandma's blanket for many years. Aaron's grandmother made this blanket, even though I don't know exactly how Aaron ended up with it I do know it has kept our family warm over the years. We found a thimble inside a few years back and now every time we use grandma's blanket we try and find the thimble.I tried to give the layout an antique feel with lots of paper layering and stitching. A Stitching Story

I would like to share the story behind this layout...
I was out in Canada visiting Staci, when she introduced me to Stitching. I own a sewing machine, so I was familiar with sewing, but had yet to actually put stitches on my pages. She had this adorable little sewing machine that is so easy to use, so of course I had to stitch everything!

With this particular layout, I got a little ahead of myself and overestimated my stitching ability. I wanted to stitch a "frame" around one of my favorite 5x7 photos of my daughter. So, with little to no practice, I put the picture in the machine and went to town. Well, I apparently got distracted on the left side of the photo because the stitching came out completely crooked and looked like a drunk person got a hold of my scrapbook page. I wasn't sure what to do when I came up with a great idea! Don't you just love when creativity strikes like that? Anyway, I decided to put my title right over the crazy stitch. I immediately loved the look. I would have never put a large title in the middle of a layout like that nor would I have covered up a photo. But, I think it looks like I planned it that way.

Sometimes it takes a mistake to make a masterpiece.

Now that it's Mother's Day and hopefully everyone I sent cards to has received theirs, I can post them here. I can see why seasoned scrap bookers love making cards so much, they are fast, easy and fun to give. I still love layouts though. I have a few done that I need to take pictures of.

Each Friday we will have a new contest. This week is CARDS. Please post your favorite card (that you have made) in the comments section or link to your blog or album, then Jenn and I will select our favorite and give you a fabulous prize. Introducing Technique Tuesday. A little about me

I am so excited that Staci has opened up her scrap blog to other designers! She is an amazing scrapper. Together we look forward to bringing you some awesome and unique creations, challenges, and commentary! But, first... who am I?

I recently took a silly little test (You know the ones...) and this was the first part of the results:

"Creative and emotional, looking for ways to further expand those qualities. Looking for a partner who enjoys the same activities. Seeking adventure and new and unusual activities."

That is me! I used to think that you could only scrapbook if you had kids, so I just waited and watched others. I quickly realized that all you needed to scrapbook was PICTURES! Boy, I had tons of those. Being married to an airline pilot has given me the amazing opportunity to travel the world and photograph some amazing scenery. I released my preconceived notions of who gets to scrapbook and finally put picture to paper and I am a changed woman! That was over five years ago. Since then I have put layouts in over 10 albums, been on one weekend scrapbooking retreat, and transformed six friends and family members into scrapbookers...Staci being one of them.

When I am not hiding out in my new "Croppin Cabana" (A scraproom built by my dear husband) I can be found cooking, cleaning, and caring for my two year old daughter. As if that weren't enough, I am also the Executive Director of a ministry that helps women in unplanned pregnancies. It is called Cypress Calling. My other hobbies, beside the obvious, include sewing, baking, reading, traveling, and gardening.

I am so excited to share my creations with you and I simply cannot wait to see what YOU create!

A new design team member

I would love to introduce our newest design team member, Jenn Simpson. She is a season scrapper and was the person who motivated and inspired em to get involved in scrapping. Jenn has amazing talent and is the definition of "crafty" She cooks, bakes, sews, scraps and used to be a teacher before taking on the hardest job in the world~ mom!
Together we are planning to turn Picture to Paper into a place you can come for challenges, inspiration, contests and giveaways.

Pregnancy album

One of the ladies at Aaron's office has been trying to get pregnant for over a year. When Aaron came home and told me she was finally pregnant I was so overjoyed, I made her this. I am going to deliver it tomorrow. Since she doesn't know what she is having yet I decided to go with her favorite color, blue for the book. I used one collection for the paper so I didn't stray from the patterns or colors. I must say i am really proud of the way it came out. Pictures are clickable to view bigger.

This is the chick a dee collection by S E I. I am on the look out for the chick a doo if anyone knows where I can find it. I's the same patterns but in blue. I have a picture of Preston giving me a hug that I want to scrap to coordinate with this layout but I think I'll wait until I find the paper I want.

This collection (Chloe's Closet) has been catching my eye since arriving at Michael's a few months ago. I never really knew what I could do with it because it looked a little too 'girly' Boy was I wrong. I love it! I have already made 2 Mothers Day cards with it too. It gets me in the mood for Spring.

I had lots of fun scrapping with my friend while she was here visiting me from Texas. We spent a few nights until 1 am laughing and scrapping. I got a few more than this I will hold off and put them in another post. I don't want to overload you.

Since last Thur. my good friend, her husband and daughter have been here in Newfoundland visiting from Texas. Jenn shares the the love of scrap booking too, actually she is how I got started. Since she has arrived we have been spending every kid free moment and every other moment that the husbands would watch the kids, scrap booking. I will be posting some layouts very soon so hang in there.

These papers are K and Company. I love the butterfly paper so much. Actually I love all things butterfly related, lol I haven't been using the Cricut lately since I have found a new love for stitching.

As you can see in these pictures the ball pit is really fun and crazy. I wanted to make the layout just as crazy and playful!

I found this beautiful black and clear transparency at Michael's yesterday. I love how it looks against the purple. While we were out running errands I saw a sewing store that I have been meaning to go into. I decided since Aaron was with me I could leave them in the car and go in. I found a sewing machine perfect for my scrapbooking projects. If you look at the layout you can see my first attempt at stitching. Put that down as another technique you will be seeing alot of.

I have been wanting to cut vinyl for some time. I have just been a little too nervous. I decided just to start out with something simple like a few words for the playroom wall.

I have loved this paper since I ordered it a few weeks ago. I thought it would be perfect for this picture. I usually don't do a one picture layout but I have had this title in my head for a while.

Flowers cut with Cricut accent essentials. Started at 3" and went down 1/4 with each cut. Some started at 2".

Paper on flowers is just a cardstock pack.

Inked edges with Dew drops versa magic

Butterflies are cut with Cricut home accents

Paper is Basic Grey Urban Prairie

Once all the cutting is done. I piece the flowers and butterflies together using Glue Dots and topped off with a button on the flower. I used glue dots to adhere to wooden dowels. I poked into a square styrofoam and topped with artificial moss.

Sympathy card
